Cloud Web Hosting Explained
What is cloud hosting in reality? The term 'cloud' seems to be quite modern in today's computing, Internet and hosting terms. However, only a select few in fact can say what cloud hosting is. Maybe it is a clever idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a very long tale brief, we will first describe to you what cloud hosting is not.
1. Cloud Hosting is Not Confined to a Remote Disk Storage Exclusively.
1. Delivering a remote data storage service, which involves one single file storage device for all clients, does not turn any given hosting firm into an authentic cloud hosting distributor.
The cPanel hosting suppliers call the ability to offer remote data storage services a cloud hosting solution. Until now there is nothing bad about the cloud designation, but... we are talking about website hosting solutions, not remote disk storage services for private or corporate needs. There's always one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to name a shared hosting service, driven by a one-single-server web hosting platform, precisely like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the remaining components of the entire hosting platform must be working in precisely the same way - this does not refer only to the remote file storage. The rest of the services involved in the whole hosting procedure also have to be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's really difficult. A very scanty number of web hosting firms can actually accomplish it.
2. It Includes Domain Names, Mail Accounts, Databases, FTPs, Web Hosting Control Panels, etc.
Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote file storage only. We are talking about a web hosting solution, serving multiple domain names, web portals, electronic mail addresses, and so on, are we not?
To name a web hosting service a "cloud hosting" one needs a lot more than supplying merely remote file storage mounts (or maybe servers). The e-mail server(s) have to be devoted only to the email related services. Executing nothing different than these given tasks. There might be only one single or probably a whole bunch of email servers, determined by the total load produced. To have a real cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be performing as one, irrespective of their actual number. Performing nothing different. The same goes for the customers' hosting CPs, the File Transfer Protocol, etc.
3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) too.
The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a real cloud hosting plans provider will support multiple data center facility locations on different continents.
Here's an example of a DNS of a genuine cloud hosting company:
If such a DNS is supplied by your hosting distributor, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can definitely be certain when you see a DNS like the one below:
that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This kind of DNS simply manifests that the web hosting environment in use is one-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server web hosting solution and maintains a market share of more than 98 percent. In cPanel's case, one physical server takes care of all hosting services (web, mail, DNS, databases, FTP, Control Panel(s), web site files, etc.).
Remote File Storage - The Twisted Definition of Cloud Hosting.
So, a cloud hosting service is not limited solely to a remote data storage solution, as numerous web hosting suppliers wish it was. Sadly for them, if that was the case, most of the file hosting suppliers would have been categorized as cloud hosting ones a long time ago! They are not categorized as such, because they plainly furnish file hosting services, not cloud hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform is really quite plain, when compared to the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud web hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's just one simple fraction of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be encountered in the cloud web hosting platform: the web hosting Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the FTP cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the near future, maybe a number of new clouds we presently don't know about will surface out of the blue.
